Apple Picking at Highland Orchards

A couple of weeks ago, we escaped the city to visit my family and do some  fall activities. Highland Orchards has been a favorite apple and pumpkin picking spot since I was a little girl and I was delighted to take Merle for the first time. She loved searching for the perfect apple on each tree and running through the fields with her aunts. Highland also offered a hayride to the pick your own sections of the orchard, a playground, a petting zoo, and plenty of silly fall themed photo ops, all of which were a big hit with Merle. For the grown-ups, they had a bake shop with freshly made hot apple cider donuts and other goodies made at the orchard/farm.  I may have indulged in a few donuts while Merle was on the swing. In comparison to other places I've looked at, Highland is also inexpensive. For $12, you get to pick about 7 pounds of apples (10-12 apples), which is certainly less than grocery stores. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the Southeastern Pennsylvania area. We concluded the day with hot apple cider, baking a pumpkin, and camping in a tent. It felt like a mini fall vacation without going far from home or spending much.
